The Joy of Walking

In the first evening of the 1999 Nepal Annapuran trekking, all members would gather at the dining table and tell the rest why they would like to take part in this 13 days expedition. Most would say that they want to beat the physical challenge of reaching the top of mountain at the altitude over 5000 m, and some said that they would want to go for a different kind of experience rather than the conventional sightseeing in traveling.

When Kwang Wei, a studious looking guy who appeared to do better in study than physical task, was asked on the topic, he told us that he simply just liked walking, and cherished the ability of walking. He explained that he had a fall last year and he was not able to walk and was bed-ridden for 2 months. After his recovery, he realized that the simple thing like walking is able to give him much joy. Therefore he started to take part in many activities like walkathons, and trekking expeditions.

Kwang Wei is fortunate to be able to take cherish a simple thing like walking, while most people are pursuing goals that are glamorous and sensational. We tend to neglect the fact that we have already been blessed in many ways. We do not want to wait till the moment that they are being taken away from us only then we realizing the importance of it, since sometimes it would have been too late.
